Daytime playtime for our best buds, The Barking Lounge provides dogs with supervised care 24-7, plus grooming services, training, and boarding. Voted best doggie daycare in Western Washington in 2008 and 2009, you’d never guess that when owner Steve Ulene found this place it was a musty old warehouse on Dexter Avenue.

Working closely with our client, PLACE laid out a whole new indoor experience for dogs and their human friends. So much more than your average kennel and groomer, the Barking Lounge established a community place where people and dogs can interact and enjoy each others’ company in an urban environment that supports both.

Housing dog runs; a coffee and relaxation lounge; retail, office, kennel, and grooming spaces; the design revolves around “Central Park,” a central area where the “kids” can play off-leash while adults hang out and enjoy a hot coffee and conversation with friends. Simple materials - chain link fencing, cool salvaged items such as the big sink that’s become the central watering hole - plus color and great graphics bring this space to life.
